I'm sorry to say I can't recall anything about the book, much less the character! I know the blog is intended for student comments, but thought I'd share an idea that came to mind. I think this discussion question may also be a good digital photo storytelling project, or PowerPoint (that's if you have access to computers).
The blog is a great way of soliciting discussions from students on required reading assignments like you have done.
I cannot recall anything about Where the Heart Is, much less the characters! I think blogs are an excellent way to solicit discussions for required reading such as literature. I also think the discussion topic you've chosen lends itself to a photo story or PointPoint.
I think the main character Novalee is like a few people I know.I used to know this girl that you had to explain everything to. Her baby's father walked off and left her to raise the child alone and let's not forget that he was a drunk just like Willie jack. She came through everything just like Novalee did like finding someone to love her and her child.

The main character Novalee is in a similar yet normal situation as many others. In today's society, many women are left either pregnant and or with newborns by their boyfriend. It is a very akward siyuation for the mothers who is raising the child because there is no father figure in the childs life. As said before this is a normal situation that sadly happens across the U.S daily.
i dont think the character is like anyone i know. she is a very unique person and she has been through alot, im sure there are alot of people who are similar to her story but i dont personally know anyone.
I really enjoyed this book. It was like real life and it was something that really happens. the whole time I was reading this book it made me think about my sister-in-law and how she go pregnant at 18 years old and how hard it was for her. But its always awesome to have friends there with you all of the time. My sister-in-law would always call me and just cry and when we got off of the phone she just felt so much better. I see a lot of my sister-in-law in Novale. Thanks.

I knew a girl that was like Novalee in some ways, but not as naive. She had a boyfriend that was a drunk and didn't care about nobody but himself. And when she started doing good for herself he some how tries to show back up and be her life, the only difference is that they didn't have a kid together. Alison
